The Sussex Wasps Disabled Sports and Archery Club
The Wasps Disabled Sports Club was originally formed in 1997 by 3 disabled people from Worthing. Two years later, the basketball team was incorporated and the athletics squad was swelled with members from another, disbanded, sports club, and the Wasps really took off. Although one of the smallest disabled sports clubs on the circuit, the Wasps very quickly became the most successful, usually coming away with the most medals, trophies and overall winner's cup.
After buying some second-hand archery equipment, the archery club became an established part of the club, with one of the archers being put forward for the England squad.
The Wasps has always been a Disabled Sports Club, run by disabled people, for disabled people and we strive to give athletes the best chance of competing on equal terms.
Sports we participate in include: Shot putt, Javelin, Discus, Bowls, Archery, Short mat bowls, Slalom, Wheelchair Basketball, Tennis (standing and Wheelchair) Table tennis, Track events, Rifle shooting.
Not only are there some very good table tennis players within the club but we have the reigning England number 1 disabled Barebow archer and he is also in the top 5 world rankings.
The age group ranges from juniors to old age pensioners and everyone is made welcome. We have had blind archers as well as wheelchair and standing athletes.
The Wasps are always open to new people and new activities.
Think you can’t do it and we’ll prove you wrong.
